Set five years after the events of Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden, the story opens in a Hillsland kingdom diminished from its glory days under King Ruin Demedium. Tensions with the kingdom of Fronce are already strained when an amnesiac red-haired man in a mask washes up at the harbor—without memories, without clothes, and promptly arrested. Taking the name Mask, he earns a pardon by agreeing to clear a monster from Boinbara's castle. Meanwhile in Edellant, King Lute Hende has been confined to bed for nearly a month, seen only by his queens and advisors.
