For a thousand years the people of Arvum believed the old legends were metaphor: demons and elves and dragons were poetic ways of describing human threats. Then something old began to wake up, and the legends started to become literal. A few people begin to notice the pattern—and to realize that the myths were not forgotten but stolen, stripped away by a dark force that has been fighting humanity since before recorded history and that thrives in the ignorance its removal created. As they piece together what was taken, the beings who took it stir to maintain their hold on a world they believe they own entirely.
