Exoplanet VVC 546520 was the first test site for a construction process called superstructure insertion—a technique for threading structural material directly into a planet's crust to hold it together during interstellar transport. The test went wrong. Continental rebar was scattered uselessly across the surface. The magnetosphere warped around the chaotic grid of ore, allowing radiation to kill most of what lived there.
