For Freelance Police-Detective Jonathan Murphy P.I., it was just another slow day in the dystopian near-future—meme waves, low caseload, the usual—until the call came from the Rift Zone. Another murder gone deadly, which is redundant phrasing Murphy appreciates. The case is stranger than the summary suggests, and it is the kind of thing a person remembers whether they want to or not.
