About This Game

In 1962, the Mansfield, Ohio police department installed a hidden camera behind a two-way mirror in a public bathroom and filmed men to prosecute them under Ohio's sodomy laws. Sentences could exceed a year. The Tearoom is a 2017 protest game by Robert Yang that documents this history. Responding to Twitch's pattern of banning gay games while approving violent ones, Yang replaced the game's depictions of same-sex intimacy with guns—the thing Twitch has never banned—making the censorship the point. A documented piece of queer game history and media criticism.
