Monsters erupt without warning across Kakyou City, shattering windows and sending people running. Chiyoko and Haruka make it to the school rooftop just in time to see bodies in the street and smoke rising in the distance. A talking cat appears and offers them a choice: become warriors and fight the Biomonsters, or do nothing. Chiyoko agrees first, accepts a painful implant, and discovers she can move faster than sound. The two of them barely hold off the initial wave together. The cat tells them more recruits are needed — students with the potential to fight. But word of Chiyoko's dangerous reputation gets there first, and not everyone is willing to risk their life for strangers, friends, or ideals they did not choose. As the Biomonster threat intensifies, the small group navigates the complicated, personal, and sometimes contradictory reasons each person has for fighting — or refusing to.
