Young Inquisitor Baltasar arrives by boat at a small island monastery in the middle of the ocean, summoned by a desperate letter from Neberon, an old friend of his father. The meeting with the Abbot is cold and difficult. Before Baltasar can understand what is happening, a series of strange events begins closing in, threatening his life. Trapped on an island with no clear allies, he must find help, unravel the mystery inside the monastery walls, and find a way off before the trap springs completely shut.
