The Berlin Apartment

The Berlin Apartment follows a handyman hired to renovate an old apartment in Berlin. The work is thorough — walls come down, floors come up, forgotten spaces are opened — and with each stage of the renovation, he uncovers remnants left behind by whoever lived here before. Objects, documents, and traces of previous inhabitants begin to accumulate. Each discovery prompts the handyman to tell his daughter a story about the people who left it: who they were, what they experienced, the world they inhabited in that particular era. Every story unfolds in its own genre and atmosphere, but they all share the same address — the same four walls, across different lifetimes.
