Metroid: HD follows the original game's storyline while adding a comprehensive suite of visual and mechanical upgrades. Improvements include increased resolution, enhanced movement animation frame counts, scrolling foreground and background elements, updated sound effects and music, an automap, a new secret area in Brinstar, pause screen power-up indicators, animated environments, beam stacking, file saving, and new title and ending screens. Full health begins on startup, enemies vanish cleanly during door transitions, and bomb laying has been redesigned. File resources for alternate sounds and graphics are also included.
