May 1, 1945 — on the eve of Berlin's collapse, a group of men and women carried out a secret ritual. To them, the defeat of Germany meant nothing. If anything, the countless lives lost in the war served as fuel for their sacrificial ceremony. Whether it succeeded or failed, no one knows. After the war, they vanished from sight, from memory, and eventually into the realm of myth.
