In a world where multiple species live by their own values and maintained peace through non-interference, a single murder in a small town cascaded into a war that swallowed the entire world. At the war's height, scientist Dr. Howard discovered a glowing stone whose power he believed could neutralize all weapons and end the conflict — but the world ended the war before his device was ready. Six years later, the stone's signal has been broadcasting into space, and the alien Gozarean have answered. Their invasion overwhelms conventional weapons — everything except two vintage airplanes belonging to Hugh and Figaro, retired pilots living on a small southern island who spent the war avoiding it entirely. What they see happening to the people they love finally pulls them back into the sky as humanity's last wings of hope.
