Avaria is home to two species. The Eoni are immortal, intellectually superior, and constitutionally incapable of emotion — a state they have maintained since the world began. A few thousand years ago, one Eoni felt something and became the first Hume: emotional, magical, mortal. The Hume have lived under Eoni law ever since, trading autonomy for guidance. Now that arrangement is breaking down. A faction of Hume is moving toward a final solution that would eliminate the Eoni entirely — the world's first genocide. Kasper and his friends navigate a world of magitech, politics, and impossible moral choices to stop it before it reaches the point of no return.
