Your name is Naomi Cragne. Your husband Peter has gone missing. That is why you are boarding a train to Vermont to search his family's old mansion. The journey involves creepy environments, eldritch tomes, and increasingly strange puzzles — but your surroundings, your memory of the past, and your own sense of who you are keep shifting, sometimes subtly, sometimes dramatically, as you move through the town of Backwater and closer to Cragne Manor.
