Two hundred years after first contact, humanity is still finding its place in a galaxy of far more advanced species. When the protagonist is laid off from their corporate job on Mars, news arrives: a distant aunt has passed away, and she wants a relative to take over her restaurant on the deep-space station Hesperides. Taking a leap of faith, the protagonist arrives to find a vibrant multi-species community of eccentrics who have made the diner their favorite gathering place.
