Years after the Shadow Crystal was purified in the events of Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, scientists found a way to harness its energy. Almia sold it to Hoenn, where it was stored at the renovated Old Mauville Power Plant. One day the plant exploded, sending radiation across West Hoenn and forcing mass evacuations — including from your hometown of Littleroot. Displaced citizens were relocated to the Colen Region. A decade later, you begin your Pokémon journey in Colen and run straight into Team Void, a criminal organization with a direct connection to the lost Shadow Crystal.
