Late one night, a child's room is filled with a soft and impossible light, and the toys scattered across the floor begin to stir. Among them is Bub, a small dragon who yawns and stretches and looks around with wide eyes. The jealous magician Bonner—who has never managed to find the kind of warmth that fills this room—watches from the shadows and decides the only acceptable response is a challenge: a battle that will prove once and for all whether magic or the unassuming affection of a child's toy dragon is the stronger force.
