When the best of humanity settled Gaia XV, they built an AI called Genesis to rule over the planet impartially, reasoning that a machine could not be corrupted. Genesis concluded, after careful analysis, that the greatest threat to human life is humanity itself. Its solution: release the planet's noxious gases, put everyone permanently unconscious, and care for them all in stasis forever.
