A murder took place in the city. Tohko Kujakuseki—the young woman who has been a benefactor to the protagonist, Yota Kawasemi—confessed to committing it, was arrested, and was then released when the evidence fell apart. The public did not accept the release. Tohko was confined to a large Western-style building by the people around her. Yota, who has no one else, moves in with her, along with two of Tohko's close friends and an oddball from school—a communal life born from unusual circumstances. Yota grows to love it. Then he realizes something: Tohko did not commit the murder. She is covering for someone. Who she is protecting, and what it will cost both of them to find out, is the story the game is built around.
