In Greek mythology, the Oneiroi were the dark-winged spirits of dreams — emerging each night from their cavern home in Erebos, the land of eternal darkness, like a flock of bats. They passed through one of two gates: one made of horn, the source of prophetic dreams sent by the gods; one made of ivory, the source of false dreams with no meaning. A nightmare was a melas oneiros — a black dream. Their leader was said to be Morpheus, who could appear in the dreams of kings wearing any human face, bearing messages from the divine. An atmospheric horror game built from the architecture of ancient Greek dream mythology.
