When Earth faces conquest by invading aliens, an ordinary young man named Ataru is inexplicably selected to save humanity by challenging the aliens' champion in a game of tag. His unlikely opponent is Lum, the captivating daughter of the alien commander, and victory would mean winning back the affections of his exasperated girlfriend Shinobu, who has made it clear that only a winner deserves her hand.
