Varcasium died before his time and negotiated a second chance: reach the exit of the Damascian Caverns, and life is restored. Fail, and the rest of eternity is spent in the worst parts of the underworld. He starts at the deepest point of the caves. Along the way, souls collected from the environment can be spent to free entities trapped in the caverns. Those entities grant abilities that make further progress possible — and that open the path to the secret areas hidden throughout. Freedom has a price. Pay it by getting out.
