The future arrived as promised: total automation, recycling running at 99.9% efficiency, humanity and alien civilizations sharing sky cities above an Earth too damaged to live on directly. By every metric, it should have been perfect. Then the systems began failing. The drone networks started behaving unpredictably. Nobody knows why. Lea and Cyris each experience the breakdown in different ways and end up thrown together by whatever is happening. As a team, they descend to Earth's surface to find out what has gone wrong — and what, if anything, still exists out in space that might save what remains.
