Psychic Eclipse

In the year 20XX, humanity crossed a threshold it had previously considered impossible: the technology to artificially awaken psychic powers was developed and released into the world by Doctor Hokushin Kadoku. The resulting system — called the Polaris System — reshaped society almost immediately. Social hierarchies reorganized around power rankings. New professions emerged that had not previously existed. The concept of the Second Talent spread across borders at a pace nobody had anticipated, and the idea of a happier future seemed plausible for the first time. The word 'seemed' is doing a great deal of work in that sentence.
